Land-Water Distribution and the Pear-Shape of the Earth
نویسنده
چکیده
The orbital analysis of artificial Earth satellites have revealed the existence of a strong third harmonic in the gravitational potential of the Earth which gives its ‘pear-shape’ in the averaged meridional section. Various attempts to explain this pear-shape based on physical principles have proved to be inconclusive. In this study, a new approach based upon statistical correlation between variables has been advocated. It is shown that even though geoid highs and lows do not generally correspond to the locations of the continents and oceans, the average land-water distribution bears significant correlation with the geoid heights. Specifically, the distribution of water is directly correlated to the geoid heights whereas the distribution of land is inversely correlated with the latter. This analysis is consistent with the principle of mass loading and is also able to locate the ‘stem’ of the pear at the North pole. It is suggested that the correlation between land-water distribution and the pearshape of the Earth is causal rather than coincidental.

متن کاملInvestigating and Assessing Soil's Texture and Density in Different Land Uses Via Google Earth Engine System
Introduction: Awareness of soil quality in agricultural lands and natural resources is essential to achieve maximum production and environmental sustainability. Although soil quality is not directly assessed, soil quality indicators are widely used today, including the physical indicators which are of great importance in measuring the soil quality, as they directly influence the plant growth an...
متن کاملPotential geographic distribution of Prangos ferulacea (L.) Lindl. in Chaharmahal va Bakhtiari province under climate change scenarios
Prangos ferulacea (L.) Lindl is a perennial plant that besides fodder and medicinal values the plant can help to control soil erosion. There is little knowledge about the effect of climate change on the Prangos genus especially P. ferulacea. In this study, we used ensemble modeling based on five species distribution models to predict the potential effects of climate change on the future geograp...

To date, the effects of nanoparticles on woody plants remain unaddressed. This study reveals some of the physiological and biochemical effects of SiO2 nanoparticles on wild pear seedlings. The seedlings were irrigated with different concentrations of nano silica (0, 10, 100, 500 and 1000 mg/l) for 14 days. Nanoparticle adsorption and absorption, biomass allocation, gas exchange, relative water ...
